FORCED ANNEXATION: Taxation without Representation

In 1765, the good citizens of Wilmington stood fast against what they considered a corrupt, abusive government. They prevailed!

Today, 244 years later, an overreaching, arrogant City of Wilmington is intent upon the forced annexation of the Monkey Junction area. One thousand three hundred residents stood on the banks of the Cape Fear River to make their displeasure known; then preceded to City Hall for the public hearing. Hundreds were denied access and City Council turned a deaf ear to those citizens who attempted to reason with council. State Statutes regarding annexation were ignored, what did it matter? After all, City Council thinks they are above the law. And a short time later, according to the ordinance, Monkey Junction is fated to become part of the City of Wilmington on June 30, 2010.

However, the battle is not over; and we do mean to fight on. There has been a lawsuit filed against the city. It is our intent to continue fighting against this tyranny in Wilmington, and identify potential candidates who will stand against forced annexation.

Ogden, Gordon Road, and many other areas of New Hanover County - you are next. The City of Wilmington has just released its "Horizons 2030: The City of Wilmington Comprehensive Annexation Master Plan", which is an extremely aggressive forced annexation agenda that will just about completely eat away at the rest of the unincorporated county (Read more on this over at Wilmington Rants).

ABLE is dedicated to fighting this tyranny. Join our fight and save yourself.

Limited Government

With the rise of political forces from the city, to the county, to Raleigh, and all the way to Washington; who subscribe to ideals of a large overreaching government, that knows no limits, and that can virtually enact any policy or legislation regardless of such being a legitimate role of government; now it is more important than ever to stand up for those principles with which our great country was founded upon.

It is not a legitimate role of government to fund every entity that comes begging with its hands out for taxpayer money. Government's purpose is to collect a fair amount of property in the form of taxes, and utilize such taxes in such a way as to provide services to citizens which they cannot provide for themselves. It is not a legitimate role of government to forcefully involve itself, and enact its own agenda in the free market, by purchasing its way in through bailouts or handouts.

We, the members of ABLE, believe in limited government, and will stand beside and support candidates who ascribe to these principles as well.

Less Taxation

As mentioned above, there are countless illegitimate operations of government today, and all are funded through excessive taxation. As the agenda and scope of government grows, so do the taxes that government must collect in order to fund such operations. As a result, government at all levels is in massive, insurmountable debt, and cannot operate according to its bare-bones budget.

Hand-in-hand with the belief in limited government, is that of lower taxation. We as citizens can spend our own money more responsibly and effectively than the government can do for us. The more of it we have and do not have confiscated by the government, the better off we are personally, and the better off the economy will be. As a result of out of control taxation, businesses cannot hire new personell, families cannot spend more on consumer goods, and a domino effect produces negative results across the economy. The vicious cycle continues as more and more families and businesses cannot financially succeed, and therefore look to government for help, which grows the size and scope of government even more.

It is imperative that we fight for lower taxation; and support candidates who stand for such.

Transparency & Political Machinery

It is said that "politics make strange bedfellows"; this is true, but truer still is that in far too many cases, politics attracts corruption and nefarious dealings among those who personally benefit from having a position of political power, or those who pay politicians to conduct, legislate, or enact their personal agendas from a position of political leadership.

ABLE believes this to be a disease in the public sector, and a far cry from the humble beginnings of our nation some 230+ years ago. Being elected to public office is intended to be a place of servitude, for a temporary amount of time, in which a servant of the people conducts business which benefits those that they represent.

For far too long right here in the City of Wilmington, New Hanover County, and all the way to Raleigh; we have watched time and time again prominent members of the community get elected to office because of name recognition and their presence in the community - only to go to office and forget those who put them there. Shady backroom deals, under-the-table negotiations, and dirty politics becomes not the exception, but the rule. The number of political figures that have been investigated, indicted, and even sent to prison in our county and state is a disgusting embarassment to our founding principles; and a constant reminder of how critically important it is for us to stand beside and support true citizen-representatives that have an agenda no other than to transparently and openly represent their constituents.

ABLE's purpose is to identify, recruit, and support such candidates for all public offices in which we are legally allowed to operate for.
